Hello,

I’m Karen Woods and I can help you make the complex simple.

I can use my experience in broadcast and print media to produce arresting audio and video, must-read brochures and memorable websites.

Let’s have a chat about what I can do…

So, who are we...

Journalist and broadcaster Karen Woods has worked in news, communications and training for more than 30 years, covering everything from the death of Princess Diana and the aftermath of 9/11 to the 2010 student protests.

She has freelanced for the BBC, was Head of News at the launch of the successful regional radio station Wave 105, News Editor at Ocean FM and Power FM (now Heart and Capital FM) and worked in newspapers. She was a judge for the 2014 Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards and has twice been on the panel for the Sony Radio Awards.

Karen enjoys putting her communications skills and expertise to work for companies and organisations, simplifying complex matters for different audiences from cutting edge scientific research to public sector re-organisation.

She also can draw on the skills of other talented communications professionals in web design, video, photography etc as required.

What can we bring to the table?

Journalism

Journalism

Karen cuts through the jargon and bluster to get to the heart of the matter, explaining what’s really important. Seeking out the story, asking the difficult questions and quickly writing the story in broadcast or print has been her speciality for many years.
Media training

Media Training

Don’t be afraid of interviews. But be prepared before you face the camera and microphone or you won’t make the most of your media opportunity. Karen runs friendly and supportive yet thorough practical training sessions using audio and video to make sure you get your point across.
Podcasting

Podcasting

Talk directly to your audiences through video and audio. It all sounds straightforward but you need to do it professionally to make the most of the media. There’s no substitute for employing people with real experience in radio and TV to make podcasts that people will want to watch or listen to.
Consulting

Consultation

Need to seek feedback from your clients or customers? Effective consultation can help build business as well as deal with issues and comply with regulatory requirements. Let’s talk about how this can be a valuable opportunity rather than a chore.
Copy writing

Copywriting

What do you want to say? Crisp copy honed by years on the newsdesk and written with style will help you tell your story and get your message across. Let Karen identify your audiences, assess what’s required for effective communication and create effective communication.
Public relations

Public Relations

Modern media is fast moving and live 24/7. You need to engage with journalists through credible messages and be ready to respond quickly in a crisis. Karen uses all news channels, including social media, on behalf of clients and never works 9-5.

Highly professional and highly recommended. Richard Carruthers, Former Project Manager, Career Destinations

Institute of Directors

Karen is a consummate professional in everything she does. She provided support to us at EEF South in producing media content including introducing us to podcasts.

She also helped many members of the team by delivering the often dreaded “media training”!

She made what can be a frightening and arduous task a pleasure by being very understanding and supportive whilst giving us knowledge and confidence on how to survive what can be a difficult requirement.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Karen to anyone needing professional journalistic support and advice on how to work with social and broadcast media.
